Types of mixtures
The two types of mixtures are homogeneous and heterogeneous
The appearance and composition of a homogeneous mixture are uniform throughout the mixture. These are referred to as solutions. The size of the particles is same in the homogenous mixture throughout. Heterogeneous mixture has particles which are not uniform and also have different phases .

Homogeneous Mixture Examples
In the Homogenous Mixture the components in the solution are uniform throughout the solution. For example take Air. Many individual elements are in air like oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen, ozone and noble gases, compound gases like carbon di oxide, nitrogen oxides, oxides of sulfur and water vapor.
All these elements are uniformly distributed. Other examples of Homogenous solution are blood, saturated sugar water and Saturated Salt water. Mixture of alcohol and water and wine. A cup of coffee and tea. Soapy water are examples of homogenous mixture.
Homogeneous Solution
A homogenous mixture has a definite composition and it also has specific properties. In this mixture the different particles are visible separately. Take for example a solution of salt water. Then salt gets completely dissolved in water the individual particles are not visible.
In a homogenous solution the components in the solution are uniformly distributed throughout the solution. The Solutes and solvents cannot be separated by filtration and can only be separated by fractional crystallization or distillation. The solution is clear and transparent. When light is made to pass through the solution it passes without any obstruction.

Is Salt Water a Heterogeneous Mixture
Salt water is a homogeneous mixture. Salt dissolves completely in water and gets separated in to sodium and chloride ions. When salt completely dissolves in water the solution transparent and clear and salt cannot be separated from water by filtration hence it is homogenous mixture It is possible to separate salt by evaporation of water.
Heterogeneous Solution
These does not have a definite composition. In a Heterogeneous solution the solute and solvent particles can be seen by a microscope or sometimes by the naked eye if the particles are big in size. Cereal in milk is an example of a heterogeneous mixture. These can be separated by normal filtration or semipereable membrane. When light is passed it gets blocked or gets refracted when passed through the solution. It is possible to separate the individual components by filtration of even by some physical means. Some examples of Heterogenous solution are milk , muddy water. Oil & water. Soil has pebbles, plant matter and sand in it.
