Non Metal Oxide
Non metals are composed of non-metals and oxygen in the form of oxide ion. These names contain two words. The first word is non metal which has a Greek prefix which shows the number of atoms and the second word is oxide. Non metal oxides generally exist in gaseous state at room temperature just like Carbon dioxide, Carbon monoxide.
These oxides react with water so that they form acids. For example Sulfur Trioxide reacts with water and produces Sulfuric Acid.
In the periodic table metals are found in the center or the left side of the periodic table of chemical elements and non metals are found on the right side and are separated from the metals .Non metals have dull appearance and are poor conductors of heat and electricity. They are non-ductile. They are poor conductors of heat and electricity.

Almost three fourth of the elements are metallic in nature. The property of metals is that the can combine with other metals and non-metals and form an alloy. Metal-oxides have two words. The first word is the name of the metal and then comes the oxidation number which is in Roman Letter and written in brackets.
If the oxidation number of the metal is invariable, then it is not indicated.
The second word is the root of oxygen plus the suffix "–ide".
Metal-oxides are formed through redox (reduction-oxidation reactions). Certain reactions will cause the combination of metals and oxygen. Metallic oxides are basic in nature and often exist as solids at room temperature.
Generally metal-oxides are insoluble in water. They produce salts with acids. Metals and nonmetals when combine together alloys which are widely used in many industries.

Metallic oxides form hydroxides with water and are basic in nature. Metal hydroxides are strong base.
This is a combination reaction and this can be reversed by the action of heat. If Metal hydroxide is heated it decomposed to form metal-oxide and water.
When there is reaction between metal-oxide and water, the oxygen is converted to hydroxide ion and gets separated from the metal but when nonmetallic oxides react with water, the oxygen is not separated and it forms a part of the non metal.
